“Explorer drivers told us what they want – more capability, more power, more space,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford’s head of product development and purchasing. “They want more technology, not just for the driver, but for the whole family. Capability

A new Terrain Management system with selectable drive modes and available four-wheel drive make driving on rough terrain a bit easier for the new Explorer. Plus, a powertrain lineup update provides more power than in past models with up to 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque for models equipped with the 2.3-liter engine. A 600-pound increase in max towing is also expected on properly-equipped 2020 Explorer models.

Interior Space

Thanks to the addition of a new rear-wheel-drive system, the 2020 Ford Explorer offers more room for passengers to stretch their legs in all three rows. Along with an increase in overall passenger volume, the Explorer also adds E-Z Entry second-row seats, child seat accommodations in all second and third-row seating positions, and an available PowerFold third-row seat option that can fold the third-row flat with the touch of a button.

Active Safety Equipment

The 2020 Explorer was built with a robust suite of standard and available active safety equipment that adds peace of mind to each trip out the door with the family in tow. Standard on all trims is a suite of Ford Co-Pilot360™ features including Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitoring with Cross-Traffic Alert, a Lane-Keeping System, a rearview camera, and Auto Headlights. Also available depending on trim level and upgrades are Active Park Assist 2.0, Reverse Brake Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Speed Sign Recognition, Evasive Steering Assist, and Post-Impact Braking.
