4 Best State Parks for Camping in Missouri


Big Lake State Park

As its name implies, Big Lake State Park is home to a 625-acre lake that makes for a great camping destination, especially if you are into fishing as well. The state park is also a favorite for migrating birds so anyone who enjoys birding will want to include this on their camping bucket list.


Elephant Rocks State Park

This state park is home to some of the most unique rock formations found in Missouri. Along the outer rim of the park is a paved trail that is great for people of all abilities and fitness levels. Inside the trail more experienced adventurers can find giant boulders made of granite that make for a great afternoon of exploring.


Ha Ha Tonka State Park

Ha Ha Tonka State Park is situated on the Lake of the Ozarks and includes more than 15 miles of hiking and biking trails, caves, rock formations, and old ruins. The most popular destination at the park is a stone castle at the top of a bluff.


Rock Bridge Memorial State Park

Fans of hiking and cave exploring will want to head to Missouri’s Rock Bridge Memorial State Park. The park is home to some of Missouri’s most popular hiking trails. Hike the Devil’s Icebox trail and it will take you through a natural rock tunnel to the sinkhole entrance to Devil’s Icebox cave and Connor’s cave. Spend the rest of the afternoon wading through streams at the caves entrance and exploring Connor’s cave. The inside of Devil’s Icebox cave is closed to the public.
