How To Clean Grease and Oil Stains Off Your Garage Floor and Driveway

Surface Leaks

Your stain-removing results will be much better if you clean any grease or oil spills as they happen. Concrete is very porous and the longer grease and oil sit on the surface the more each will soak in making them harder to remove. If you have a fresh grease or oil spill, the first thing you should do is absorb any of the remaining liquids with an absorbent material like kitty litter or sawdust. Once all of the liquid has been absorbed and the absorbent material has been properly disposed of, you can move on to cleaning the stain left behind.

Stain Clean Up

There are a number of different cleaning solutions that will help lift the stain, but we like to use products we already have around our house the most. The first option is to use a powdered dishwasher detergent. First, sprinkle the dry dishwashing detergent over the stained area and let it sit for twenty minutes, then pour hot water over the detergent and use a scrubbing brush to scrub the stain away before rinsing with clean water. If you don’t have any dry dishwashing powder on hand, you can also try the same process with baking soda.
