Friendly reminder: Check the back seat before you walk away!

Rear Occupant Alert is set to be standard in Hyundai vehicles by 2022

It seems like every year, we hear about the terrible tragedy of someone losing a life due to being left in a hot vehicle. As a result, Rear Occupant Alert is set to be standard in Hyundai vehicles by 2022. Hyundai wanted to do this voluntarily to help do its part in keeping people safe. Keep reading to learn more about Rear Occupant Alert and how it works.

What is Rear Occupant Alert, and how could it help save lives?

Hyundai vehicles that come standard with Rear Occupant Alert have extra sensors that monitor the back seat. If you put your child in the back seat, when you arrive at your destination, you will receive a prompt reminding you to check your back seat. If you do not see the prompt and walk away from your vehicle, believe us when we say you will be back soon! The system will go off if it detects movement in the back seat. If this happens, the horn will go off, the lights will flash, and you will receive a notification on your Blue Link application on your phone.

What is the Ultrasonic Rear Occupant Alert?

It is basically the same as the Rear Occupant Alert, but it comes with door-logic technology. This means that the system senses if a rear door is open before driving. It will then prompt the driver to check the back seats before walking away. Again, if the system senses movement in the back seat, it will trigger the horn lights and send a notification to you via Blue Link.

What are the Hyundai dashboard warning lights and what do they mean?

Are there any Hyundai vehicles that currently have this technology?

Great question! Yes, there are four vehicles that already have this technology built-in. They are the 2019 and 2020 Santa Fe, 2020 Palisade, and 2020 Sonata.
