Do I need to remove all of my bumper stickers before trading in my vehicle?

Bumper stickers have been proudly decorating rear bumpers for years and helping drivers to show off their unique viewpoints. While they can be a fun addition to some vehicle exteriors when it comes time to sell or trade in you are better off without them. So, how can you remove old bumper stickers without causing any damage to your vehicle? We have three tips for easier removal below.

How To Remove Bumper Stickers Without Causing Damage

Melt The Adhesive With Heat

The trick to clean bumper sticker removal is to find a process that removes not only the top layer of the sticker but also the adhesive underneath. Most sticker adhesives will start to melt when they come in to contact with direct heat. To take advantage of this, use a blow dryer to direct heat to the edges of the sticker as you slowly peel it back. Keep the hot air moving, as directing it to one place for too long can have negative effects on your exterior paint.

Dissolve The Adhesive With Chemicals

Besides using heat, you can also try dissolving the adhesive behind your bumper sticker using specialized products or chemicals such as Goo Gone or WD-40. Begin by testing the product on a small area to ensure it won’t harm your bumper.

Apply the solution generously to the sticker, concentrating on the outer edges. Employ a credit card or a small plastic scraper to delicately peel off the sticker while the chemicals work their magic.
